How We Build A Wooden Boat
| . |
We start with the ribs, the bottom board and the builder's jig.
. |
Then we rotate the boat and securely fasten it to the builder's jig. We then place spreaders between the ribs to hold them to a precise width.
. |
We then begin planking the boat. Glue, drill and screw; glue, drill and screw. A messy job.
. |
Planking up to and flush with the bottom board; closing the boat.
. |
Sanding the exterior.
. |
Sanding the interior.
. |
Ready for fiberglass.
. |
Dry fitting of the fiberglass.
. |
Epoxying the glass down to the boat.
. |
The epoxy curing.
. |
Inspecting the interior for touch-ups.
. |
Fit the decks, gunwales and combing strips. (The boat in this and the next couple of photos is half painted, half bright.)
. |
Fit the seat-risers, seats, yoke-risers and oarlocks.
. |
More fitting of seats and seatback. . |
Fit the brass protective strip on the stem, and the brass stem cap and ring.
. |
And away you go. . |
We've left out a great many steps....most of which involve somebody doing something with sandpaper. |
