How We Build A Kevlar Boat

 

 

We begin with a very highly polish mold which is the precise shape of the boat it will produce. This mold was cast from one of our wooden boats.

.

Two layers of Kevlar go into the mold, and two layers of  fiberglass.

.

Polyester resin is rolled into the cloth.

.

Many messy steps in the building process have been skipped over here. But... the completed hull is now pulled from the mold.

Gunwales and seat cleats are installed into the molded hull.

.

Boatshops never have enough clamps. In this photo the boat's deck is being installed.

.

And if we do it just right...
